Gamefire.com is proud to present our brand new community based on Steam! We have big plans for this group including a ventrilo server and weekly gaming sessions. We hope you guys will join us whenever your online. If you don't have Steam, we suggest you get it and join us. Read on for details.
- Steam
- Steam is a program made by Valve, the developers of Half-Life, Team
Fortress 2, Portal, Counterstrike, etc. It is primarily for digital
distribution. You can buy games on it and download them straight to
your PC (if you reformat, you can always download them again, so long
as you remember your account name and password). Steam is also an
instant messaging service and allows you to join your friends in a game
very easily (a la xfire). Steam also lets you chat with steam friends
while in game.
However, Steam recently unveiled a new "community" feature that allows
people to create groups. We've now created a Steam Community called Gamefire Community (GFC) on Steam. So do a search for us in the community tab and feel free to join!
- Gamefire Community Ventrilo Server (IP: vent.gamefire.com Port: 5263)- Ventrilo is a voice chat program that runs on your computer. You download and install it, then you can join a server (server ip and port noted above). We hope that anytime you are up for some gaming or just hanging out, you'll join us on the vent server. Bring your friends, play games!
- Gamefire Community Game Events - Every month we'll pick a "Game of the Month" to play (based on community feedback). We'll try to schedule events through the GFC event system inside steam. In addition to the Game of the Month we'll also have several "staple" games that we will play every month. Currently the Staple games are Call of Duty 4, Company of Heroes, and Team Fortress 2. We may start up some spur of the moment games as well and pull as many people as we can to jump into a big game.
We also hope to add officers to the community who will help moderate the ventrilo server and also organize events when everyone else at Gamefire is busy.
So we hope you'll join us, if you have any more questions or feedback, send it to talesof-at-gamefire-dot-com.
